From 2022 Sri Lanka is going through a turbulent season of protests due to the deep corruption of the political class, which dragged the country into a severe economic crisis exacerbated by the consequences of the pandemic. The state's capacity to import basic necessities such as fuel, medicines and food is compromised. Rising prices of agricultural and fish production have further worsened the situation in the country, now on the brink of a food crisis. Despite the suppression of the protests by the governement, many in Sri Lanka are not losing hope for a better future, and for the first time since independence the people are united in a common cause.
